Stuart Carter
Managing Director & Executive Producer
Before becoming one of the founders of Pioneer Productions,
Stuart gained his doctorate in Earth Sciences at Oxford University
and then worked at Columbia University, New York. Stuart stepped
into television as a BBC producer where he produced and directed
numerous science documentaries. After leaving the BBC he directed
many programs for ITV and C4. Stuart has created and executive
produced hundreds of hours of programming as well as continuing as
Managing Director for the company. Under his creative leadership
Pioneer has assembled one of the top popular factual units in the
world.
Kirstie McLure
Head of Production
Kirstie's production career commenced in 1990 at Tigervision
before moving to Pioneer Productions, as Head of Production.
Kirstie has an intimate knowledge of all of the aspects of
television having worked across hundreds of hours of programming.
Kirstie produced Universe, Pioneer's highly acclaimed cosmology
series, and its successor The Edge of the Universe.
Jeremy Dear
Head of Development
Jeremy began his career at the BBC, producing on-air promotions
before moving into documentaries. In 1994 he left for Italy, where
he became Creative Director for a multi-channel broadcaster based
in Rome, overseeing productions across Europe and the Middle East.
Upon his return to the UK he took up a position as Head of
Television for the UK Travel Channel, where he launched and
executive produced several new series. He joined Pioneer
Productions in 2003 and is responsible for programme development
across all genres.
Peter Dunkerley
Head of Finance
Peter's career began in 1997 at top children's indie The Media
Merchants Television Company. Here he oversaw production
accountancy and corporate finances across all their commissions,
which included such productions as Art Attack.
After the company was bought by the Britt Allcroft Group in 2001
and then taken-over by HIT Entertainment in 2002, Peter was
responsible for the finances of a number of high profile projects
including Sooty, Thomas the Tank Engine and Art Attack
International.
In January 2006, Peter joined Pioneer Productions as Head of
Finance, where he is responsible for managing the finances of the
Pioneer Media Group of companies.
Sean Grundy
Head of Drama
Sean started at Granada working as an on-air promo producer,
then moved into factual entertainment; which included writing and
developing shows with Paul Whitehouse, Charlie Higson and Caroline
Ahearne. He moved into directing documentaries, which was followed
by lecturing in documentary production at Salford University and
Bristol UWE for three years.
During this time he also produced several short feature films.
In 2000, he joined BBC Bristol to direct docs and comedy, and then
moved into drama, which included directing Teachers and Sugar Rush.
In 2006 he made Hindenburg for Pioneer, and in 2007 joined the
company to help establish drama production.
Leonora Chao
Business Affairs Executive
Leonora began her media career in drama before joining Pioneer
Productions in January 2008. She is responsible for all
business affairs activities at Pioneer, specifically broadcast and
production contracts and the negotiation of international co
productions. Leonora works across all genres of Pioneer
programming, overseeing production compliance and licensing.
